4. Languages week report from Emmanuel College

From Monday 3rd May until Friday 7th May, Emmanuel College staff and students were treated to a fun-filled and successful Language Week celebrating both Japanese and Italian cultures.

Students participated in a number of lunchtime cultural activities including Juventus Soccer Academy, remote control sumo wrestling and manga drawing. There were also full day activities for our Year 7 students, as well as senior Year 9 & 10 students, such as Taiko drumming with Asia Raya, Judo workshops with Dennis and the talented crew at iJudo, Tarantati dancing with Global Grooves and Commedia dell’Arte with Make a Scene.

Our senior students were also able to learn more about their chosen language through informative seminars from Zilla Bailey of the Japanese Consulate and Melbourne University lecturer Matt Absalom and Dante Aligheri Vice-President Mary Marcuccio. We were also treated to a gelati truck, sushi lunch and a grand lunchtime concert from our VCE students.

Overall, it was a fun and educational week where students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in language and culture.

Written by Yoshi Yamamoto, on behalf of the Languages Department of Emmanuel College – Altona North and Point Cook.
